The types of pitfall traps mentioned above are very effective. Farmers used to put corn on top of the water so the rats thought they were jumping into a barrel of food. Of course they drowned trying to get out of the corn covered container. Smart farmers got tired of replacing the corn (it gets soaked and sinks) so they made small pieces of wood chips.. painted them yellow to look like corn. We used to do this to "bait" geese and it drove the Fish and Wildlife guys crazy since it was illegal to put real bait (corn) out prior to hunting. They could never "cite" us since it was not technicall corn.

If you want a really great trap for squirrels and rats buy a Mitlyng tunnel trap. They are great full body (kill) traps and 100% effective ...

Could you please take down the thing about the nail traps? There are other, much more effective, humane traps out there. Thanks :)
