I just had my entire pea and bush bean crop destroyed by rabbits. I am going to build this trap and catch me some meat. I will get my protein one way or another.

I made several of these in my teens. I sometimes used hollow logs for the bodies of the traps so that they could be hidden better. I closed off the back end with wire so that I could see what I'd caught. I never used carrots for bait. Instead, I used slices of apple and a teaspoon or so of salt. The bait was placed in the back of the trap so that the rabbit would have to bump into the trigger on the way to his meal. Believe it or not, we ate the rabbits we caught this way. I'd check my traps every other day, I'd dispatch the critters with a club and take them home to clean & butcher. My mom would wash the meat, salt it and chill it overnight in the fridge. Just couldn't beat rabbit fried then simmered in its own gravy and served with freshly made hot biscuits. Ah how the youth of today must suffer.

It looks like it is 6 inches wide and 8 inches high inside. It that big enough for wild rabbits?
