Using natural mosquito repellents is a nice idea. You can save up on the money you spend purchasing repellents from stores. You can use the simple recipe mentioned in this article to make your own vodka and lavender mosquito repellent.

It is recommended that personal insect repellents such as citronella and oil of lavender not be used on children under 2 years of age. Registered citronella oil repellents protect people against mosquito bites for less than one hour. The registered lavender oil repellent protects for half an hour or less.

You can make your own vodka and lavender insect repellent easily. All you need is:

1. Mason jar

2. Lavender buds

3. Vodka

Most traditional naturalists will recommend that you fill the glass jar with lavender and cover it completely with vodka. After this you must seal the jar and ensure the seal is air tight. This will ensure that the lavender oils and vodka mix properly and are not lost due to evaporation. You will then have to keep the jar in a sunny area for about 20 days.

Make sure you rotate the jar and shake its contents regularly. Shaking the jar ensures that the contents get mixed thoroughly. After 20 days you will have to strain the lavender from the vodka and seal the liquid that remains into a new glass jar. You can now use your insect repellent as and when you need. The repellent is ideal for protection against insect bites . You can take a small jar of the liquid with you the next time you go camping, hiking or fishing.
