Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent
Ultrasonic dog repellent can help you in getting rid of dogs that bark ferociously at you. We all know that dogs are considered to be man’s best friend. However, we can find some dogs to be unfriendly and they could turn out to be life threatening. We can come across such dogs while walking home at night or while taking a morning stroll. Unexpectedly they will start barking ferociously at you. You may try to get rid of them by simply shooing them off but still you will find them coming up behind you.
Physics of Sound
Sound begins as a wave of pressure. When one of these waves passes through a solid object, liquid or gas, it causes it to vibrate. This vibration produces sound. A human being can have a hearing range between 64 to 23,000 Hz, but the average hearing range is between 20 to 20,000 Hz. Dogs have a hearing range between 67 to 45,000 Hz, which means they can hear better than humans.
How ultrasonic dog devices work
Dog whistles are considered ultrasonic devices. Ultrasonic is simply a fancy word that means something that makes a sound above a human’s hearing range. In this case, a dog whistle usually produces a sound that is somewhere between 16,000 to 22,000 Hz, which means both dogs and cats are capable of hearing a dog whistle when it is blown.
The sound is not only high-frequency but also loud, so that it can be heard by dogs for quite some distance. Most ultrasonic dog repelling devices will list the effective range. Often, this is around 15 feet, meaning that the dog will hear, and be annoyed by, the sound as soon as they get within 15 feet of the device. Dog repellers are recommended as animal attack deterrents because they allow you to maintain a safe distance between yourself and an unfriendly or attacking dog. You don’t have to get close enough to a dog that you place yourself in danger.
To use the dog repeller, simply point the device towards the dog in question, and press the button. This foolproof method is great for carrying in your purse or pocket, especially if you go jogging or walking anywhere where a stray dog may come after you, or if your job routinely takes you near unfamiliar animals.
Some ultrasonic dog devices also contain LED lights. The bright blinking light emitted from its LED can also be used to confuse them. This device can work for cats as well. All you need to do is turn on the ultrasonic sound by pressing the power button and direct it towards the dog which does not appear to be friendly. Soon, the dog will get away from you as it cannot stand the disturbance emitted from the ultrasonic waves. This way you can remain safe from an unfriendly dog.
